Cleaning Tips For Pet Owners

By Cleaning

At least 49% of all adults in the UK own a pet, showing our love for animals. However, when it comes to cleaning your home it can sometimes be difficult. With pet hair, mud and accidents prone to happen, it can be hard to keep your house spick and span.

Our blog at Lancaster Cleaners looks into some handy cleaning tips for pet owners, making your life easier.

How Many Pets are in the UK?

According to recent research carried out by the PDSA, almost half of all adults own a pet. Of these 25% have a cat, 24% have a dog, and another 2% own a rabbit. With all of these pets, there’s sure to be a lot of cleaning that comes with them.

The PDSA also looked into how much money is spent by pet owners on their four-legged friends. Monthly costs ranged from £70 for a pair of rabbits to between £70 and £105 for a dog. However, we all often underestimate the costs of our pets! Vet trips and accidents on upholstery can cost us a lot to resolve. In fact, 88% of cat owners said that they spend more than they’d budgeted.

One of the most annoying parts of owning a pet is the fur that’s shed. Whether you have a cat or a dog, you’ll find fur everywhere. Luckily, there are a few tips and tricks when it comes to keeping your house clean. Using a lint roller on fabric, especially clothing, will help to keep your possessions fur free.

Most vacuums also come with special pet adaptations now which are designed to remove hair. If you don’t have one, then using a pair of rubber gloves will do the same thing. All you need to do is slightly dampen them and wipe your hands over fur to bring it together.

Although, the best way to keep fur to a minimum is to brush your pets regularly. This can sometimes be a challenge but try making it fun and enjoyable. If that fails, then using treats is always a good option.

Managing Smells and Odours

There is nothing worse than walking through the front door to be greeted with an overpowering smell of dog or cat. A wet pet or smelly litter tray needs to be dealt with. Washing your pets keeps them clean and also helps to take care of their coats. There are plenty of shampoos and conditioners out there to suit any kind of allergy that your pet may have.

Other options are to place air fresheners or diffusers around your home. Make sure they are out of reach (as far as possible) and they should mask smells. For a more natural option, essential oils like lavender will also do the trick.

Baking soda is also another favourite with pet owners. If you have a pet bed with a removable cover, then you can wash this using detergent and a small amount of baking soda. Once dry, any smell should be a thing of the past.

Cat Litter Trays

Any cat owner will know that litter trays can be a smelly place to be. Cleaning these regularly is crucial and as cats prefer a clean environment, it’s a win-win. There are a few things you can do to make this easier to do. When you fill them up, place a layer of plastic underneath it to make emptying simple.

It also helps to carry out a deep clean once a week to make sure that smells don’t linger. Wash them out and use a small about of cleaner to keep them fresh. Replacing a litter tray every year or so provides your cats with a clean space to go to the toilet.

By Cleaning

As a busy space, an office can easily become overwhelmed and cluttered. There is nothing worse than over spilling rubbish bins and dusty desks. However, with a team of professional office cleaners, any space can be clean in no time.

Our blog this week at Lancaster Cleaners covers all the benefits of hiring a professional company.

Offices, Cleaning and the Stats

Keeping your office clean is important. Not only does it encourage people to work, but it also provides visitors with a positive impression of your space. The old saying of ‘tidy house, tidy mind’ applies for a working environment too!

According to Elite, only 70% of offices have a dedicated cleaning team. To add to this, a shocking 60% of workplace absence is attributed to unclean offices and spaces. Moreover, cold and flu viruses are able to live on surfaces for up to 18 hours. As the average desk has 400 times more bacteria than a toilet seat, we should prioritise keeping these as clean as we can.

Without regular cleaning, it is easy for employees to pick up illnesses.

How Can Professional Office Cleaners Help?

An estimated 31% of total cleaning contracts are taken up by office jobs, making it an incredibly popular field. Using a team of office cleaners helps to reduce your responsibilities, saving you time and keeping your employees safe. A huge benefit of a cleaner is that they know exactly what they are doing. With years of experience in the industry and tons of tricks up their sleeves, they can have any space sparkling in no time. Also, they have access to all the latest equipment and products, ensuring that your office is up to the highest standards.

Bad Cleaning Hacks You Should Ignore

By Cleaning

We’ve all fallen victim to the temptation of online hacks. They’re all over social media feeds and take advantage of us when we’re tired. However, there are some bad cleaning hacks out there that you should ignore.

At Lancaster Cleaners our domestic cleaners are committed to cleaning your homes correctly. When it comes to your property, we only ever use the best techniques.

Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook

These social media platforms are the most common places for hacks. From clothing design to make up tips, everybody has been making suggestions. However, there are some particularly bad suggestions when it comes to cleaning.

As well as being useless, some of these ‘helpful tips’ can cause damage to your possessions.

1.      “Vinegar and Soda removes everything!”

Nobody is saying that these items aren’t miracle workers. Used in the right way, vinegar and baking soda can be great for cleaning. However, when mixed they do not work. The two cancel each other out and leave you with a salt water combination.

2.      “Ink stain? Use hairspray”

Some of you may be thinking that this trick has worked in the past and it may have done. However, as modern day hairspray no longer contains 100% alcohol, this trend no longer works. With additions of oil, conditioners, and emollients, the popular product can’t remove stains.

If you do need to remove a stain, then you’re better off leaving the hairspray to one side. In some cases the substance will cause more harm than good. It can leave a tacky mark behind, ruining your fabrics.

3.      “Mouthwash cleans a washing machine”

As a dental favourite, mouthwash is ideal for killing unwanted germs. On the other hand, it is not strong enough to clean your washing machine. For effective cleaning you should use a dedicated cleaner. This will be tailored to remove limescale and other unwanted grime.

4.      “Lemon in your dishwashing makes dishes cleaner”

Citrus fruits smell lovely and taste great in drinks. In fact, some people on Pinterest believe that the fruit is a natural disinfectant. While putting a lemon wedge in the dishwasher may make your dishes smell lovely, it won’t impact the cleanliness of them.

The best solution for sparkling dishes is traditional washing up liquid or dishwasher tablets.

5.      “Use olive oil and lemon juice as a polisher”

When it comes to wooden furniture, you need to take care of it. Covering the surface with olive oil and lemon juice does just the opposite. You’ll be left with a tacky substance, causing you more cleaning. Who wants that?

Another urban myth is the use of teabags to clean furniture. As well as not doing any cleaning, this hack could cause potential staining.

Taking Care of Your Home

The best way to avoid any issues is to use domestic cleaners that you can trust. Whether that’s by researching the best products available or by outsourcing your cleaning, there’s always a better way.

Here at Lancaster Cleaners we’re always available to help. Our team can come to you and make sure that your property is as good as new!
